Resisting Temptation

So I’ve been reading a lot about temptation and how to resist it, and it made me realize how sometimes instead of owning up to our own wrong doings we just put them off on other people. Often times we complain and try to justify our sins by saying that, “The devil is tricky.”, and “When you’re in that situation you just don’t think about it.”, or even, “It’s hard to resist in the moment.” When clearly God’s living, breathing, still applicable Word says He wont let us be tempted beyond anything we can bear, and not only that, but He’ll provide a way of escape when we are tempted, and when we resist the devil he’ll flee from us! (See 1 Corinthians 10:13, & James 4:7)
To be completely honest the sins that happen, the ones that we try to justify the most are actually situations that we set ourselves up to be in! How are you gonna keep your bodies a temple when you only hangout with people who smoke and go to parties that you KNOW everyone and their moms are gonna be drinking at, how do you plan to resist sexual temptations when you and your significant other are laying in your bed making out and all over each other, etc. Often when we have wrong doings and sin we try to blame the enemy, when really it’s just our ‘inner me’. DON’T blame the devil for being, “tricky” when in reality all he had to do was sit back, watch, and do nothing because you made your sin happen all by yourself. (See James 1:13-15) We constantly have to check our hearts and make sure we’re walking in the Spirit because it’s pretty simple when the Bible says, “So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” (Galatians 5:16)
And this post is not to condemn anyone because we’ve all fallen short of the glory of God, but when we’re faced with temptation and fail the test we have to own up to our mistakes and be truthful with ourselves because the truth will ultimately set you free! And remember guys, God loves us regardless of our shortcomings and forgives us no matter what! Until next time, peace, love and Jesus
